A world of art, open to everyone

Artopia is a streaming home for art film — art house cinema, artist documentaries and exhibition films — brought to you by the people behind Art Collector. We believe the finest films about art shouldn't screen once and disappear. They should have a home: a place to be watched, considered and returned to. So we built one. Artopia brings the gallery, the studio and the great art house cinema into your living room — curated by people who know art.

Every year, across Australia and New Zealand, remarkable films are made about art and the people who make it. Many screen at a single festival, take one broadcast window, and then quietly vanish — no permanent home, no second life, no way to find them again. That never sat right with us. This is work of real substance, made with care, and it deserves an audience beyond a single night. Artopia exists to give these films somewhere to live, and to give you a considered, trustworthy place to discover them. We are part of the Buratti Art Group, and we've spent years inside the art world — publishing Art Collector, working alongside artists, galleries and the filmmakers who document them. Artopia is what happens when that knowledge is turned toward the screen.

Curated, not calculated

Artopia is curated by people, not sorted by an algorithm. Everything you find here has been chosen and framed by editors who know the field — who can tell you why a film matters, where it sits in an artist's story, and what to watch next. It is the difference between a shelf assembled by a machine and one arranged by someone whose taste you trust.

We think that difference is the whole point. Our promise is a simple one: accessible in spirit, credible in substance. No art-world gatekeeping, no jargon, no assumption that you already know the canon — but nothing dumbed down, either. An open front door, with the standards of a serious institution behind it.

A fair home for filmmakers

Artopia is built to work for the people who make the films as much as the people who watch them. We partner with filmmakers on a revenue-share basis — no upfront cost, no transfer of rights, and an honest, transparent split of what each film earns. Licences are non-exclusive and time-limited; filmmakers keep their copyright and remain free to license elsewhere. It is found revenue on work that would otherwise sit idle, placed in credible company and in front of exactly the audience that values it.

In doing so, Artopia aims to become the natural home for art film in this part of the world — and the natural partner for the filmmakers, distributors and arts organisations who make it.
